National Book Foundation's e-Books
National Book Foundation's e-Books are now available on the Ministry of Information Technology & Telecom's e-library (www.pcl.org.pk) for the public to read the books on their computer screens.
It will not only increase promotion of national/regional languages nationally and internationally but also assist book lovers who cannot afford to buy them, or those who cannot find the books in hard form.
This is a joint venture of the National Book Foundation (NBF) and National Information Technology Development and Promotion Unit (NIDU).
It is an effort of the Ministry of Information & Technology to bring out Pakistani books in digital form.
To reach the NBF publications the following path can be used

3. Choose National Book Foundation in "Ashat Koninda"
4. Choose the book.

Learners Resource Centre in Lahore
A proposed Centre is in the process of establishment at Lahore which would help writers with their creative work.
It would be equipped with all necessary requirements including resource materials on various disciplines published all over the world.
Access will be free.
A reading room will also be provided for the public to encourage their reading habits.

Workshop on Creative Writing
A workshop on Creative Writing for Children was organised in Islamabad on May 28 & 29, 2008, by the National Book Foundation in collaboration with International Islamic University and GTZ with the main objective of broadening the canvas of writers of children's literature, enhancing the concept visualisation required for children's writing and developing the understanding of creativity and innovation for children's printed material.
Mr. Shahid Ahmed, Additional Secretary of Education, inaugurated the workshop. In all, 64 participants from all over the country registered for the workshop, interacting and indulging themselves in real life situations with a participatory approach.

APPA Book Award
Asia/Pacific Publishers Association (APPA) awarded the silver award for the year 2007 to the National Book Foundation's book "Frontier Facets". It is the first award won by Pakistan from APPA.

World Book Day and other activities on book development
World Book Day
Preparations for the celebration of World Book Day are in progress. As in previous years, it will be observed with the spirit of highlighting the importance of books in the life of civilised society. Private and public sector departments, including the National Book Foundation and Department of Libraries as well as the private sector organisations, will arrange media talks, seminars and walks.
Universal Primary Education
The incoming Federal Education Minister has announced that the target of universal primary education will be achieved and a crash programme will be launched for the advancement of literacy. He also pledged that the present government will make all-out efforts to provide education compatible with the requirements of the 21st century. Furthermore education will be knowledge-based, enabling the new generation to meet future challenges and to contribute to the development of the country. A New Education Policy comprising the said vision and also the required available resources will be announced shortly.
Country-wide Book Exhibitions
The National Book Foundation has arranged a country-wide exhibition of books offering high discount rates for the promotion of the reading habit in society. It will continue until the end of May 2, 2008.
Children's Writing Competition
A 'Write and Win' competition for the writers of children's books has also been announced. Those gaining merit will be given cash awards along with the purchase of their publications in multiple numbers.
