5. Strengthen the ESD agenda in national education advocacy coalitions

ASPBAE Quality Education Workshop November 2009

ASPBAE held a workshop entitled "Building a Shared Understanding of Quality Adult Education in the Asia Pacific” on 4-7 November 2009 in Jakarta, Indonesia. This workshop saw a broad discussion on Quality Education, with ESD being seen with other frameworks, as important in delivering Quality Education. Furthermore, through ACCU support ASPBAE was able to support three indigenous educators to participate in the workshop. One of the issues strongly voiced by the indigenous participants was the importance of educators dealing with climate change as it impacts directly on education. They saw ESD as important in the effort to ensure quality education especially to marginalized groups such as indigenous people.
In addition, as part of an initiative to promote ESD and the issue of climate change the workshop introduced an initiative to measure the carbon footprint left by all participants and the workshop.
