Throughout the second year of its COE project ASPBAE held many regional workshops which provided opportunities for national education coalitions to attend and link their respective national advocacy work to the sub-regional, regional and global education advocacy efforts. The following highlights the key events that were attended by national education caolition representatives with supprot of the COE project:
In February 2008, Mildred Igo from PNG Education Advocacy Network (PEAN) and Rose Wale from Coalition on Education Solomon Islands (COESI) attended an ASPBAE Meeting and field visit to a local Fijian community in Lautoka, Fiji. This included a discussion about their sustainable agricultural and environmental practices.
In March 2008, a series of meetings organised by ASPBAE on its Real World Strategies (RWS) education advocacy program was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This was attended by representatives from 5 national education coalitions.
In April 2008, ASPBAE sent Ms Cecilia Soriano - a representative from Education Network Philippines (E-Net) - to a meeting in Zambia on innovative literacy promotion measures. Cecilia is also the writer of the Indigenous Education impact paper for the Philippines.
In May 2008, a South Asian Education meeting organised by ASPBAE in Colombo, Sri Lanka was attended by representatives of national education coalitions from Pakistan, India, Nepal and Bangladesh.
In August 2008, over 50 participants attended including representatives from national coalitions prominent in the ASPBAE COE Program including John Gonapa from PEAN, Paul Kakai COESI, as well as Jacob Zikuli from Live and Learn Environmental Education in Solomon Islands.
In September 2008, ASPBAE held an Education Watch Evaluation workshop in Bangkok, Thailand. This workshop was attended by representatives from 10 national coalitions involved in the RWS. This workshop provided PEAN and COESI an opportunity to link their national research to the larger regional initiative, especially following their respective launches of the Educational Experience Reports.
