Project 1: Development of a Text
Development of a Text for use in a number of SOE courses (Indigenous Pacific Knowledge, Ways of Knowing and Philosophies of Sustainable Life).
The text will look at indigenous /Pacific philosophies of knowledge and ways of knowing associated with SD because knowledge and epistemology are important components (cannot be separated from) SD ideas and processes. The book will be used by colleges and University teachers in a number of courses. The book will have ten chapters. Pacific philosophies of sustainable life and ways of knowing these. Authors will be carefully chosen to write a chapter each (One from the following countries/ Pacific cultural groups: Cook Islands, Marshall Is, Kiribati, Tuvalu, Niue, Nauru, Tokelau, Samoa, Tonga, Fiji, Solomon Island, and Vanuatu.
The book is an effective avenue of mainstreaming ESD principles and practices relevant for the Pacific. Some of these courses include: ED153, ED216, ED316, UU104, ED451, ED461.
Main Activities
Honorarium for the authors, editing and meeting expenses, document preparation including graphics, printing
Project 2: A Text out of a series of 10 seminar presentations
Documentation of 30 Pacific stories about the environment (natural resources’ use, distribution, conservation), and the relationship of these to people and communities. This book of stories will provide specific cases and scenarios of ESD ideas and knowledge.
To be used as reader/ resource for a number of courses in the SOE specifically ED153, ED216, ED316, UU104, ED451, ED461.
Main Activities:
10 Seminars: foods and flyers and travel costs of presenters- a nominal amount, Honorarium for the authors, editing and meeting expenses, document preparation including graphics, photos, printing. All presenters will be from Suva but of cultures from around the Pacific.
