COE Programme for ESD

The University of the South Pacific (USP)
3.5 Project 5: Development of ESD Book for NFE: Environment and SD in the Pacific

USP Component 3 -Project 5: Introduction-Development of ESD Book for Non-formal Education: "Environment and Sustainable Development in the Pacific Island Countries: A Simplified Treatment"

This is expected to be a substantially revised version of a schools outreach resource book originally prepared by the COTS Program of the Chemical Society of the South Pacific. Every chapter in the current version has an introductory part aimed at the general public, a second part mainly meant for high school students in general and a ‘further reading’ section catering to more advanced users. The proposal is to keep the same format, but revise the book with more color photographs, local case studies, best practice examples, and commentaries by regional experts. Special care will be taken to align the student’s section of the book to the high school curriculum in the region so that the book may be used as a resource material for the mainstreaming of ESD principles and practices relevant for the pacific.

Main Activities:

Resource material collection; Honorarium for the authors; meeting expenses, document preparation including graphics, printing
