The need and relevance of ESD in the local context

Question 1: What does the notion of ESD symbolize to you?

Reply: The ESD is very important as it is a strategy for wholesome development, socially, economically and politically.

And to ensure sustainable development, education is the main channel through which knowledge, skills and values can be imparted to lead a sustainable livelihood. I think it is very much related to the gross national happiness.

Farming is the main occupation in the rural areas. However, if the farmers are not supported with improved farming techniques and marketing, there is every danger of rural urban migration increasing and most of the farm land would remain barren.

Achieving ESD-Goals

Question 2: How would you plan to empower the targeted individuals and communities to help create a more sustainable future beyond addressing immediate needs and challenges of the beneficiary?

Reply: This is the essence of education for sustainable development. If the future generation is not able to continue with same spirit and activity, then the project is not sustainable. The main principle of this project is to improve the farming practices upon the existing one and help them realise the improvement in the yield and marketing. This project should serve as a model to the community and the youth will look forward to taking up farming as a main source of income for their livelihood in the rural areas.

The project is planned simple but practical using the locally available resources so that it is sustained and can be easily passed on the younger generation.
