Preparation and Participation in Volcanic Monitoring

After completing and getting significant input on spatial volcanic hazard course, focal person from volunteers and local community members conducted a field trip to volcano monitoring site. This field trip was held with the cooperation of Volcano and geological disaster mitigation centre. Walhi’s staff, volunteers and local community focal persons learned how the specific government institution monitors the process of volcanic activity. Seismic activity, chemical gas, lava and lahar behaviors, land deformation were explained and discussed among participants. The output of this activity is to learn the hazard features and initiate strategies to cope with its risks. During this activity, linkages with government institution was also initiated and built.
