PLANET Workshop - Review of PLANET Programme

Photo:Review of PLANET Programme-1To lay the groundwork for the upcoming discussions, the PLANET programme was outlined by ACCU in the beginning. First, the history and components of PLANET was touched upon and then the overall PLANET scheme was explained, which goes through the process of collecting local wisdom of the region and implementing with a view to community empowerment as well as the incorporation of international agendas such as Education for All (EFA) and Education for Sustainable Development (ESD). The presentation covered the production of prototype version in English and local version where it was emphasised that adaptation does not mean the mere translation of the language, format, presentation, illustration and contents are modified to meet the needs of local people, culture and environment. Following the past achievements in which participants were impressed by the diversity of languages and countries that local versions were produced, in conclusion a question was raised about the future development of PLANET, which was to be discussed in the Workshop.
