2) Brief Background – Educational context of the country
Educational reforms in Uzbekistan have been started in 1997, and since then it has made impressive gains in educational attainment in terms of quantity. Currently, much of government attention to education has focused on quality issues. In order to reorient education system to the needs of a market economy, National Plan of Action focused on development of more modern curricula, more learner-centered teaching process, strengthening pre-service and in-service teacher training etc. Non-formal education activities have been elaborated within the new concept "Family, Mahalla and School". It is important to strengthen these activities in sphere of education for sustainable development, and to provide knowledge and information on various subjects such as environment, health and disaster preventions.
3) Objectives
To Promote of NFE learning materials on waste management, and thereby raising awareness for a better environment, sustainable development and healthy life. Setup long-term cooperation network and empower people's activities for proper waste management. To generate ideas to respect nature and limited natural resources.
4) Target beneficiaries
Adult learners, school-going and out-of-school children in 4 urban areas and 6 rural areas. Trainers and experts from CLCs and governmental / non-governmental organizations working in the field of environmental education.

6) Monitoring
Group of experts from each partner organization carried out monitoring of the project by visiting CLCs, attending programs, and make survey on impact. Mid-term progress reports from CLCs and group meetings and discussions of project participants were used for monitoring.
7) Outcomes
Immediate: to elaborate user-friendly materials in NFE on environment protection, capacity building for trainers in CLCs.
Long-term: to extend the experience to other communities, and conduct similar teacher training for formal education.
