Project Title

Developing a Model for Home-based E.I. for Children with Disabilities

Project

The number of disabled children who go to school is very low in Vietnam. One of the main reasons is that they lack specific skills to access education. Thus, to provide them with these necessary skills through early intervention is vital for their education, life and sustainable development.


Project's objectives

Supporting knowledge and guiding families will improve specific skills to help disabled children to go to school at the right age, to ensure equal chance in education for all.


Main activities involved

  1. Setting up a group to implement the project;
  2. Setting up a tool kit to measure social skills of children, identifying disabled children, the awareness of teachers, school, family and the community, knowledge on taking care of and educating disabled children;
  3. Choosing experimental samples;
  4. Organizing implementing workshop;
  5. Identifying, screening and doing survey to make a list of children;
  6. Organizing the workshop in a real situation;
  7. Choosing kindergarten teachers for EI at the children's family;
  8. Training and guiding on EI for teachers, parents;
  9. Making individual education plan for each child;
  10. Further training and improving knowledge for kindergarten teachers and parents;
  11. Guiding skills directly;
  12. Organizing a workshop to share experiences;
  13. Assessing the implementing process to learn from experiences;
  14. Organizing workshop on summarizing and expanding;
  15. Propagandizing to expand the model.

Main expected results

  1. The model of Early Intervention (EI) for disabled children is developed
  2. 2 sets of training documents for kindergarten teachers and parents, on Early Intervention (EI) for Disabled Children (DC) are developed.
  3. 120 disabled children in the remote and mountain areas will join EI at their home.
  4. 120 parents and 70 kindergarten's teachers will gain knowledge and skills on EI for disabled children.
  5. Propaganda about home-based EI on television, radio, local mass media, flyers… is conducted.

Mission

Ensuring equal chance in education, developing potential, living independently and integrating children with difficult circumstances in education and society (Disabled children, ethnic children etc..)


Functions

  1. Doing scientific research in the field of Special Education and for Disadvantaged Children, Minority Children and Gifted Children as well;
  2. Building human resources for Special Education ;
  3. Counseling to the government on scientific bases to develop strategy and curriculum for Special Education.

Responsibilities

  1. Doing research on scientific bases to develop strategy and curriculum for Special Education;
  2. Develop Models and Curriculum of Special Education;
  3. Training and in service training on Special Education;
  4. Doing scientific research on teaching materials, pilot productions of textbooks, teaching aids etc;
  5. Counseling and supervising Special Education;
  6. Gathering, processing and communicating information in the field of Special Education;
  7. Cooperating with national and international organizations and individuals working for Special Education.
