Department of Fine Arts established Drama and Music schools in Yangon and Mandalay. These schools were opened to restore, produce and research Myanmar traditional drama, opera, ballet and national races, traditional dances and music.

Training of performers
Under the Fine Arts Department, Division of Research and Training established State Schools of Drama and Music. Yangon School was established in 1952 and Mandalay School was opened in 1953 and offered to teach the following subjects:
(g)Traditional dances in Dramatic arts
(h)Chinlone (cane ball)
There are about 100 students in each school. Upon completion of a 3-year course, they are given certificates.
The entry requirements for the school are a pass in 4th Grade and talent. For Music and Dramatic Arts age must be at least 10 years and not exceed 14 years.
