Objectives

The academy aims at encouraging, Safeguarding and promoting the growth and development of our national culture and fine arts, arranging for research on traditional and contemporary cultures and arts of Bangladesh rendering financial help to meritorious and creative artist, granting recognition and creative and affiliations, offering financial assistance to the affiliated institutes and organizations engaged in the promotion of cultural activities, organizing art exhibitions dramatic and musical performance, conferences, study groups, lectures, debates, and symposia, arranging international festivals of music and dance, publishing and selling books, periodicals, anthologies on fine arts and national culture, awarding prize and medals and conferring academic distinctions. Stipend and scholarships are also awarded for furthering outstanding contributions in various fields of fine arts and national culture. Moreover, settling up the theatres, museums, art galleries and acquiring collections for them, arranging cultural functions in honor of foreign dignities, sending cultural delegation abroad and receiving cultural delegating from different countries on behalf of the government are also include in the activities.

Field of Programmes

Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy is responsible for internal cultural development and promotes cultural programmes with other countries. The ministry of cultural affairs, Govt. of the Peoples Public of Bangladesh was set up to promote the cultural activities of the country. Within the ministry there are many organizations. Bangladesh shilpakala academy is one of them.

Major Programmes on ICH

Bangladesh shilpakala academy is an autonomous organization, the ministry of cultural affairs gives financial support and helps make with foreign countries. This organizations major activities doing academy's five major department, namely music and dance, drama and cinematography, research and publications, fine arts and training department. This five departments doing work their fields and the entire department also doing programme presentation, training orientation programme, internal cultural development and also promotes cultural exchange programme with other countries.

Periodicals

Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy publish two periodicals in a year named 'SHILPAKALA BULETIN' in Bangla and English language by the Department of Research and Publication

Major Publications

In order to stimulate and nourish our culture, a massive programme was undertaken by the department to publish books on painting, music, dance, dramatics, cinematography, photography and architecture. Besides the regular publications of the academy journal "SHILPAKALA" (in English and Bengali) the department has so far 18 publications on dramatic arts, 14 on music 95 on arts, 2 on dance, 3 on craft, 4 on film, 7 on photography and 12 other books on history, culture and architecture.
