Major Programmes on ICH

  • The Cultural Mapping Program ? entails mapping out elements of Fijian cultural heritage within the 15 the provinces. Information inquired derives from Traditional Knowledge and Expressions of Culture (TK & EC) or Fiji’s Intangible Cultural Heritage. Data is collected through audio and visual recordings and preserved in a database to facilitate the creation of the National Inventory on TK and EC. This project will identify issues for the Indigenous Intellectual Property Rights and legal protection of resources and traditional custodians.
  • Fijian Dictionary Project ? The project was conducted in the 1980s and the Institute is currently collating and documenting Fijian Dictionary project papers for archival storage. However, the main purpose is to ascertain proper Fijian words and meanings extracted in the 1980s and invigorate significant elements of Fijian cultural heritage for future generations.
  • Documentation and Publication ? IFLC is responsible for documenting and publishing information gathered from researches and important cultural events or traditional ceremonies. This will help increase archival storage and eventually used for educational purposes.
