Description of Major Activities

Under the Director, the institute has 4 divisions: research-collection, library, musical instrumentation, computer-media.
-The division of research-collection includes music researchers who frequently work in the field collecting and documenting traditional and popular music culture.
-The library houses more than 4000 hours of music and interviews on tapes, as well as a modest collection of manuscripts.
-The division of musical instrumentation is in charge of collecting musical instruments and preparing them for exhibition.
-The computer-media division is responsible for updating information on CD-ROM and VCDs, as well as providing instant access to information that is available on line.

Brief History
The Vietnam Musicology Institute was officially established in 1968 as a result of structural expansion from its pristine organization originated in 1958.
