With the invitation of the Korean National Commission for UNESCO, 48 Japanese teachers and officials visited the Republic of Korea for seven days from 12 to 18 July and returned Japan with lots of meaningful exchange experiences.
In the early morning on 12 July, 48 participants left Tokyo for Seoul and participated in the initial orientation with lectures on the current situation of education, ASPnet and ESD in Korea and also attended the opening reception. On 13 July, participants were divided into two groups and visited each of Younghoon International Middle School and Yumkwang Middle School in Seoul.
From 14 to 16, group A went to Gyeongsangbuk-do and group B went to Incheon City. Each group visited offices of education, elementary schools, high schools and cultural facilities where they could have direct interactions with Korean teachers and students to understand each other.
On 17 July two groups gathered again and had the debriefing and the closing sessions in Busan. Participants presented what they learned in the programme and discussed about their future plans. The exchange experiences among the professional educators in both countries are expected to be utilized fully in their home schools and their educational networks especially in the development of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD).
