2000/03 Case Study on Education Programme in Loh Yo Village THAILAND

The programme is designed to meet the educational needs of ethnic minorities in the Hill Tribes of northern provinces of Thailand. For the provision of education, two distinct target groups - 5-14 years old children for day schools and 15 years and older youth and adults for evening classes.


1 Objectives The main objectives of the programme are:
To develop flexible learning schedule, teaching methods, and materials for meeting the community requirements;
To extend community participation in the planning and management of education;
To study the background/starting point of education programme in the village as well as literacy in Thai language of hill tribes;
To set up a study plan for hill tribes provide a second chance education for out-of-school children and youth;
To enable children and youth of marginalized and disadvantaged population groups to attain secondary education; and
To prepare trained and skilled manpower for the labour market.

4 Process The traditional way of learning is combined and enhanced by modern media, such as radio, television and exchanges of ideas and experiences. Training workshops, seminars and meetings have been organized for making learning more effective and attractive.
