This case study provides insight on the development of local curriculum in Muang Sing District , Luang Namtha province in Lao, PDR.


1 Objectives The main Objectives of the project are:
To undertake research studies on community participation in the development of local curriculum; and
To study the outcome and impact of local curriculum on ethnic minority groups.

4 Process The Process includes effective involvement and participation of the community in:
Decision-making;
Planning;
Operation and implementation;
Sharing and utilization of accrued benefits; and
Evaluation.
5 Output
Increased number of literates particularly girls and women.
Establishment of community learning centres and libraries with sufficient reading materials.
6 Strengths
Organization of instruction by interest groups which is learner-based and fully participatory.
Theoretical learning is associated with basic vocational training for income-generation activities.
Training of NFE personnel in the techniques of organizing NFE programmes at the grassroots level and for ethnic minorities.
