The paper explains the National Library's initiative to produce the first Malaysian Children Nursery Rhymes in Malay Language on Multimedia CD-ROM. This has been done with a view to create an awareness and computer literacy among children.


1 Objectives The main Objectives of the project are:
To revitalize and promote local nursery rhymes and present them in multimedia format to capture children's interest;
To preserve and popularize indigenous children's nursery rhymes among children of the new generation;
To encourage local publishers to embark on publishing children's multimedia production;
To increase and enhance the usage of Malay language through simulation rhymes and games for educational purposes and for developing creative minds amongst children; and
To promote elctronic publishing in Malaysia.

3 Input The critical Inputs provided for the project include:
Combination of various computer hardware; and
Audio-visual cassettes for children 12 years and under.
4 Process Mekktoon Sdn. Bhd was entrusted to design creatively the local children nursery rhymes on Multimedia CD-ROM. Features of the CD-ROM include:
Eight rhymes.
Animated dictionaries.
Two games.
Internet connectivity.
Files on Pentium PC & power Mac.
5 Output
Inculcation, promotion and stimulation of interest in Malay children about the national folk literature.
Enhanced use of modern information technology in promoting literacy and educational entertainment.
Promotion of mutual cooperation and fruitful collaboration among various Partners engaged in literacy activities.
