Note : Papua New Guinea uses a community-based or "bottom-up" approach to adult literacy. Therefore, there is no mandated government curriculum. While there is a government vision to support literacy at the intermediate and advanced levels, at this point only basic level materials have been prepared. The above grid is an example of how a community could arrange the content of their basic literacy classes.
* Adopted by the National Literacy and Awareness Secretariat in 1999.
