The Pakistan Girl Guides Association (PGGA) is a national organization established in Pakistan in 1947 and now operating in the provinces of Punjab, Sind, Baloachistan, North West Frontior, Federal area of Islamabad and Northern Tribal Areas of Pakistan.
The Pakistan Girl Guides Association is a national organization and a member of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS). It offers a dynamic educational programme to girls and young women to develop their full potentials as responsible citizens. It also emphasises the importance of individual contributions towards the community.
The Girl Guides programme lays stress on community development projects by giving women the opportunity to learn about health, nutrition, environment and economic uplift through income generating skills.
The membership of Guide Movement in Pakistan is about 1,00,000 girls and young women in the Formal and Non-Formal Education Institutions. Its voluntary leadership comes from the School / College Teachers, other career women and housewives qualified and trained in educational and developmental programmes for girls and women.
The Girl Guide method of training is learning by doing to acquire such knowledge, skills which are useful for girls, their families and the communities.
AWARDS
The Pakistan Girl Guides Association was awarded an Honourable Mention for the NOMA Literacy Prize by UNESCO in 1989.
To Honour Pakistan Guides who excel in self development & community work, the President痴 Gold Medal, is awarded to Guides for outstanding service.
Pakistan has also won the WAGGGS Olave Award for community projects on two occasions, in memory of Lady Olave Baden Powell the founder of the Girl Guide Movement.
