Institutional Capability-building Training Workhops |
The main focus of this activity is to improve and strengthen the institutional capabilities of Mindanao-based NGOs engaged in literacy work. The Foundation has conducted a total of thirty-three (33) training-workshops with more than 1,800 participants representing twenty (20) NGOs operating in Mindanao for the past two (2) years. Trainings on community organizing, facilitators' training, instructional materials development, gender and advocacy, are among those conducted. |
Instructional Materials Development |
Learning/instructional materials are important learning tools that facilitate instructions. Curriculum and instructional materials developed under the project gave emphasis on critical information in their contents. Furthermore, the learning materials are organized and presented in order to encourage attitude and skills development among the adult learners. Development of learning materials was guided by the objective of empowerment. Eight (8) learning materials were developed and printed under the ACCU grant. Additional fourteen (14) proto-type instructional materials were developed and ready for printing. |
Mindanao-NGO Literacy Network |
Diverse groups of Mindanao-based NGOs engaged in literacy work are now members of the network, under the UNESCO - World Education Project. Selection was based on geographical location, nature and extent of literacy services and groups/ communities being served. Greater attention was given to NGOs serving tribal groups, lumads and indigenous peoples of Mindanao. There are now fifteen (15) NGO partners. |
Research and Advocacy |
There is a need to advocate for addressing literacy work as an urgent priority, both for the government and the private sectors. Advocacy work for the national and local government units to allocate funds and resources reasonably, for literacy and adult education should adequately addressed. Researches are currently being conducted in support of the literacy advocacy work. |
