AJP Materials |

|
There are a great number of people in rural areas with either limited literacy skills or none at all in Asia and the Pacific, and they often lack adequate reading materials. AJP Materials have been produced to sustain the literacy skills of neo-literates in the region, and also to provide useful knowledge and information for improving their quality of life.
Joint efforts and sharing of experiences are the key concepts of AJP. The AJP Materials are planned, pre-tested, developed, utilized and evaluated through the collaboration of many people - literacy policy makers, material developers, instructors, field workers and most importantly, the learners themselves.
As of March 2003, 59 titles of AJP Materials have been produced in English as prototypes. According to conditions prevalent in each country or community, literacy organizations concerned produce local versions of AJP Materials by translation, modifications of texts and illustrations to suit the learners' environment. So far, more than 220 kinds of such local versions have been produced in more than 30 languages in various countries in the region. |
