The Pilot Version Asia-Pacific Learning Materials Database has been developed by the Asia-Pacific Cultural Centre for UNESCO (ACCU) to test the multi-lingual decentralised management system of the database which enables a large number of users in different countries in Asia and the Pacific region to directly upload and download the information and data on educational materials in any language.
ACCU aims to create a Database which will facilitate the collection, sharing and utilisation of existing learning materials amongst the education and community development practitioners, researchers and policy makers in Asia and the Pacific region, particularly those engaged in literacy and continuing education activities. It is hoped that such a Database will contribute to improvement of educational activities thus leading to promotion of Education for All (EFA) and Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) from grassroots, national to international levels.
The partner education organisations of ACCU will collect the information and data on learning materials used for teaching-learning activities in literacy and continuing education, including literacy primers and supplementary learning materials on a wide range of subjects in various formats in local languages and English. They will then test the uploading of such information and data to this Pilot Version Database.
They will also test the search and download functions of this Database, and assess its usability. It is expected that the users of this Database will be able to search for learning materials by inputting keywords in any language as well as selecting categorised items, view the information on materials, and freely download the full text data of materials for educational and non-profit purposes. For details of copyright, please refer to the site policy.
Based on the findings from the Pilot Version Database, we will improve its system and develop the framework for scaling up its operation.
