Since 1994, ACCU has established Literacy Resource Centres for Girls and Women (LRCs) together with accomplished literacy and non-formal education organisations in each country in the region.
At present, there are 18 LRCs in 17 countries, forming an effective network in this field. LRCs provide technical support to NFE organisations and individuals including researchers, and government officials in materials development, training, information and networking.
To support these activities, ACCU conducts training for LRC staff while promoting information exchange among LRCs to disseminate model programmes.
Recently, ACCU has been supporting a model project for literacy for women the "SMILE Asia Project", an integrated project designed to improve women's literacy level, literacy environment and health of mothers and their children.
